Gun Safety Rules

Special thanks to the NRA for being the de facto standard in gun safety regulations and guidelines. Please visit there website at www.nra.org for more information on guns and gun safety.

1. ALWAYS keep the gun pointed in a safe direction.

2. ALWAYS keep your finger off the trigger until ready to shoot.

3. ALWAYS keep the gun unloaded until ready to use.

When using or storing a gun, always follow these rules:

  • Know your target and what is beyond.
  • Know how to use the gun safely.
  • Be sure the gun is safe to operate.
  • Use only the correct ammunition for your gun.
  • Wear eye and ear protection as appropriate.
  • Never use alcohol or over-the-counter, prescription or other drugs before or while shooting.
  • Store guns so they are not accessible to unauthorized persons.
  • Be aware that certain types of guns and many shooting activities require additional safety precautions.
  • Keep you gun clean, and make sure the gun is unloaded and the ammunition in in another room while cleaning!

Safety Around Children

It is the Parents' Responsibility to train their children in gun safety!

There are guns in approximately half of all U.S. households. Your child could come in contact with a gun at a friends house, or just about anywhere.

Children are exposed to guns on TV & video games. It is very important that parents educate them on the real dangers of guns. One of the basic rules is to teach your children the following!

STOP!

Don't Touch.

Leave the Area.

Tell an Adult.

Remember that repetition is most effective for educating children in gun safety.

The NRA's Eddie Eagle Gun Safe Program is one of the best resources around for educating children and parents about gun safety. For information about the Eddie Eagle Gun program, visit www.nrahq.org/safety/eddie or call (800) 231-0752.
